Career journey
Shubman Gill started playing cricket at an early age, representing his state team Punjab in a variety of age-group contests. He made his first-class debut for Punjab in November 2017 and soon established himself as a consistent top-order batter.
In 2018, he was named to the India Under-19 team for the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup, where he played a significant role in India’s win. He was voted tournament player of the year for his continuous performance.
Following his triumph at the Under-19 World Cup, he was selected in the 2018 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction by the Kolkata Knight Riders. He earned his KKR debut in the 2018 season and has since proven himself as an important member of the team’s middle order.
He was picked to India’s T20I team for the series against Bangladesh in October 2019. In November 2019, he made his international debut. He also played his test debut for India against Australia in January 2021.
Gill has been a reliable player for both the India A squad and the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League. He is regarded as one of India’s budding cricket stars.

Shubman Gill hit his maiden double century off 145 balls in the opening ODI between India and New Zealand on 17 January 2023Â in Hyderabad. He became the fifth Indian cricketer to do so, and his innings featured 19 boundaries and eight enormous sixes. Previously, Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Rohit Sharma, and Ishan Kishan have accomplished the feat.
